INTRODUCTION:
Working with high school youth as instructor, mentor and wholesome role model has been a life-long passion, beginning as a Boy Scout instructor at the age of eleven. Having worked with various youth groups over the years, as well as raising two children, I have learned the joys of mentoring thoughtful and vibrant teens, coaching them into productive means of expressing themselves and leading them into responsible duties.
After a long career as a professional woodworker and wood artist, I returned to the university to earn my credentials as a high school science teacher.
BACKGROUND IN MEDICINE:
In the history of Medicine, my mother (Donna Zschoche) pioneered the first Critical Care Nursing program at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange County, California. She founded the complete array of critical care/specialty care units now common in hospitals around the world. She also founded the first Paramedic unit, and I had the opportunity to help in the training program. In addition, she was the founder and first president of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and started the National Critical Care Institute of Education. Throughout those historic years, I worked closely with her in all her endeavors. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from UC Irvine in Biological Sciences – Pre-Med, and completed post-graduate work in medical school in Mexico. I have taught medicine to teenagers at UCLA and University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. I completed my MSEd with California Baptist University, Riverside, CA, in May 2018.
My passion is teaching youth and teaching teachers of youth. As a Cadet Program training officer in the USAF Auxiliary – Civil Air Patrol, my duties included training pre-enlistment cadets, 12 – 20 years of age, as well as training their senior officers in project management and leadership.
